Granarolo, an Italian dairy group, opened its second "Granarolo Bottega” store in Bologna following the first launch in Milan back in October 2021. The new store offers fresh dairy products and a selection of cheeses from Granarolo's portfolio as well as from partner companies. The Bottega store's concept has been developed to reduce food waste, by offering 30-50% discounts on products that are near the expiry date. The store also features next generation refrigerated counters with low environmental impact. The initiative behind the store is a part of Granarolo's commitment to sustainability (2018-2021 Sustainability Plan), consistent with Goal 12 'Responsible Consumption and Production' of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Fresh dairy products have shorter expiry dates than other foods (such as processed foods) until they are declared not "fresh” anymore. Granarolo's approach to offering discounts to clear out products near expiration dates is in line with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, therefore helping to ensure less food waste for sustainable consumption.

*17% of total food is wasted at the consumer level (Goal 12 'Responsible Consumption and Production' of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development).
